Ingredients you will need:

  • 3 Cups /750ml of natural wholegrain rolled oats
  • 45ml unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5ml baking powder
  • 1ml salt
  • 2 medium-sized yellow bananas’
  • 2 large eggs
  • 80ml all-natural smooth peanut butter (or any nut butter of your preference)
  • 60ml raw honey
  • 250ml low-fat plain yoghurt
  • Melted 78% to 80% dark chocolate to drizzle.
  • Optional: 15ml cinnamon power 125ml to 250ml chopped mixed nuts, 125ml to 250ml cut of pitted dates or 125ml to 250ml mixed raisins and cranberries.

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Using butter, margarine, or an aerosol non-stick cooking spray, grease an oven-safe baking dish.
  3. Combine all the dry ingredients including the rolled oats, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and a pinch of salt into a large mixing bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl mash 2 medium-sized ripe bananas to form a smooth banana puree.
  5. Next add 2 large eggs, the smooth peanut butter, the measured plain low-fat yoghurt, and honey to the mashed banana puree.
  6. Mix the wet ingredients using an electric mixer on the lowest speed setting until just combined.
  7. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry, taking care not to over mix as this may interfere with the baking powders ability to rise.
  8. Pour the Chocolate, Banana Oat mix into your greased baking casserole or pie dish and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 20 to 25 minutes. Note: For thermofan ovens, cooking times may be slightly less so keep a close eye to be sure the surface does not catch.
  9. Once cooked and golden brown, remove the baking dish from the oven and allow to adequately cool.
  10. Using a double boiler, or a hot water bath, carefully melt the dark chocolate taking great care not to burn it as this will change the flavour.
  11. Once the dark chocolate has just melted, drizzle over the top of the chocolate banana oats sweet treat cheat to complete with a decadent chocolate finish.

Add a fruit and or nutty twist to this chocolate banana oats recipe by including chopped mixed nuts, cut up dates or mixed cranberries and raisins to the wet mix and for just a hint of spice you could opt to add 15ml of cinnamon to the dry mix before combing all the ingredients together.
