Family Friendly Rice Crispie Treat Recipe

Grab the kids and keep them busy and entertained while you whip up delicious rice crispie treats for the whole family to enjoy.

Getting kids involved in the kitchen always seems like a great idea at the time (cue those cute Instagram kid baking posts), but let’s be honest – it can quickly turn from Instagram-worthy content to eggshells in your batter and flour all over the kitchen.

And that’s why Cobra. Here For You. Has the perfect solution.  An easy to make, but fun recipe, that the whole family will love!

Delicious Rice Crispie Treats Recipe:

For Cobra’s rice crispie treats you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 normal size packet of marshmallows
  • 4 cups rice crispies

Optional fun extras:

  • Food colouring of your choice
  • Smarties, jelly tots or any other colourful deliciousness
  • Icing sugar

Rice crispie treat creation method:

  1. Have a flat baking tray at the ready lined with non-stick baking paper.
  2. Slowly heat the butter in a saucepan over a moderate heat.
  3. Once melted (don’t let it burn), add in the marshmallows.
  4. Continue to heat the marshmallows, stirring occasionally whilst you watch them slowly melt and go all gooey (the butter helps with the stickiness don’t worry).
  5. Once the marshmallows are melted through, pour in the rice crispies (little hands can help with this part, but watch out for that hot stove).
  6. Stir the rice crispies throughout the sticky marshmallow gooeyness; if you want to add a fun colour to the mix now is the time!
  7. Once all the rice crispies are completely covered in delicious gooeyness, you can empty the mixture out into the baking tray.
  8. Using the back of a wooden spatula, press the mixture with generous pressure down into the tray. A handy tip here is to even use your hands with some non-stick baking paper.
  9. Once all in the tray, leave to cool for an hour or two, and then using a knife, cut into squares or rectangles.

Decoration time:

  1. Once cooled - this is the fun part where the kids can really get involved.
  2. Take the rice crispie treats out of the tray and place onto the counter (use baking paper or foil to avoid any mess on your counters).
  3. Mix up some icing sugar with water and food colouring, hand the kids some spoons and whatever colourful treats you have (smarties/jelly tots etc) and let them go wild.
  4. Design faces, robots, traffic lights, whatever your heart desires – you can even add in some sprinkles or make rainbows.
  5. Allow time to set and then enjoy with the whole family.
